Adopt-a-Racer
RAAM is an expensive undertaking. The average cost is around $20,000 per solo racer. Please consider adopting a racer or team if you can or if it would be of interest to your group or organization. Any donation or contribution would be a big help and greatly appreciated by the racer. For example, if you have a group of twelve, each could chip in $10 and sponsor a time station of a racer. Many also accept donations per mile, donated goods or services such as calling cards, gas cards or use of equipment such as CBs, cell phones, etc…
See the recent article on the National RAAM website on Marko Baloh (Slovenia). He is the current Marko BalohUMCA and Guinness world record holder for 24 & 12 hours, as well as for 200 and 100 miles. He is one such racer who has had difficulty raising money due to working full time. If you would be willing to help him out, see his website here.

Most racers are set up on PayPal. In many cases, being a sponsor gets you added to their newsletter if they have one, and gets you updates on their progress as their race unfolds. In some cases there are other perks. Being part of a team also makes it a lot more interesting from a race stand point. Please let us know if you would like us to help put you in touch with one of the racers.
Time Station Schedules:
Schedules for open time station shifts are available through our website. To volunteer use this form. Please sign up as soon as possible so our time station managers can determine where spots will need to be filled in advance. Consider bringing along a friend to work with you on your shift. For those groups or organizations having to drive from Cincinnati, Dayton, or Northern Kentucky consider forming a car or van pool at a location central to the group. More information is available on our website on what to bring and what to expect.
What is involved in serving at a time station? It is a combination of cheering for the racers, providing crews, RAAM officials and media crews with local information and having a really great time.
RAAM is infectious. Three years ago, a couple who did not cycle just dropped by to see what it was all about and stayed for 36 hours straight. The next year they were time station workers. You can find a manual on Time Station Operations Guidebook here.
Your editor has worked the midnight to 8am shift at times stations for a number of years. In a future newsletter he will tell you why working at night is the very best time to see RAAM. The web site has a list of things to bring with you to the time station.
NEW! A photo contest for 2009.
After considering this for several years, we will have a photo and video contest for RAAM 2009 in Ohio. Watch our April newsletter for more details. The only thing we have to offer at the present time is the honor of winning. If anyone would like to sponsor a prize, we be happy to add you as a sponsor.
2008 RAAM DVD is available at the National RAAM store for $19.99 as well as other RAAM items.
New 2009 RAAM posters are available on our local website and the National if your business or organization would be willing to post up at your workplace.
We are now a group on Facebook. Join OHIO-RAAM here.
